A D M I S S I O N S

Our goal is to provide each student with a quality musical experience.  Each student will receive a well rounded approach in learning music.  The lesson plans are designed to meet the needs of each individual student.  Here are the steps to being admitted as a student into Phylicia Hollis Studios.

1. Consultation

Please visit the appointments tab to schedule your 30-minute consultation.  When you schedule your lesson, you will select consultation.  This 30-minute introductory class is $30 and will consist of an interview, a cognitive ability test, and a piano or voice lesson . Students and their parents (if younger than 18) will meet with the designated instructor to discuss the student's goals. Parents of students under 18 are encouraged to attend this session.

2. Scheduling

All appointments are self-book. Lessons can be booked up to 6 weeks in advanced based on the days and times that are listed via the scheduling app.  While it is advised to only schedule one appointment per week, you are welcomed to schedule as many as you would like. 24-hour notice must be given in order to cancel or reschedule your lesson.  ALL LESSONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

3. Purchase Your Materials

It is the student's responsibility to purchase all books, materials, and instruments.

4.  Payment

Full payment is due at the time you schedule your lesson.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How old should children be in order to begin lessons?

Piano?  4 years old is a good age for a child to begin private piano lessons.  The youngest age I begin piano lessons with is 3 years old; however, each child is different.

Voice?  9-10 years old is a good age for a child to begin private voice lessons.  Children under 9 years old will only be permitted to study voice at the discretion of the director after the consultation.  Students younger than 9 that wish to sing, but may not be ready for vocal lessons are recommended to study piano until they are mature enough for voice lessons.  Once again, the director will make the final decision of the students maturity level for vocal lessons.

*Parents, please remember each child is different. Not mastering each skill at the initial consultation is not a reflection of your child's musical destiny.  Developmental Psychology theories have proven that a child will only learn certain things when he or she is ready.  Some children are ready for lessons as young as age 3 while others are not.

  • Do you make home visits?
